Swachh Survekshan Awards 2020 

Swachh Survekshan is an annual Cleanliness survey. This includes hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aimed to make India clean and free of open defecation by 2 October 2019. The first survey was undertaken in 2016 and covered 73 cities. By 2020 the survey has grown to cover 4242 cities and is largest cleanliness survey in the world. The surveys are carried out by Quality Council of India.

Swachh Survekshan 2020 Criteria

The survey is carried out by the Quality Council of India, every year. It include 5 Lakhs+ ULB Document Evidence captured,24 Lakhs+ Geotagged Photos captured from field and feedback from 1.9 crore people.

The 2020 Swachh Survekshan was weighted on 6000 points. Following are the different components of sanitation related aspects used for the Swachh Survekshan 2020 :- 

(a) Service Level Progress => 1300 marks

(b) Citizen feedback => 1500 marks

(c) Direct observation => 1500 marks

(d) GFC (SWM) =>  1,000 Marks

      ODF /ODF+ / ODF++ =>  500 Marks

(e) Average ranking of Quarterly Assessments (April 2019 to June 2019, 

     July 2019 to Sep 2019, Oct 2019 to Dec 2019) = >  200 Marks

  • Cleanest city awards for cities with population above 1 lakh :  Indore (Madhya Pradesh)        

  • Cleanest city awards for cities with population below 1 lakh :  Karad (Maharashtra)          

  • Cleanest state with more than 100 cities : Chhattisgarh          

  • Cleanest state with less than 100 cities : Jharkhand
  • Cleanest Ganga town : Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Maximum citizen participation in keeping city areas clean : Shahjahanpur    

  • Cleanest megacity with more than 40 lac population : Ahmedabad (Gujarat)    

  • Best self-sustainable cities with population above 40 lakh : Bengaluru (Karnataka)   

  • Fastest-moving city in terms of cleanliness : Jodhpur  (Rajasthan)      

  • Self-sustainable city in terms of cleanliness (more than 10 lakh population) : Rajkot (Gujarat)

  • Self-sustainable city in terms of cleanliness (less than lakh population) : Mysuru (Karnataka)
  • Cleanest small cities : Ambikapur (Chattisgarh)
  • Cleanest city with population between 1 lakh to 3 lakh : Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh)

  • Cleanest capital city : New Delhi (Union Territory of New Delhi) and the NDMC.
  • Fastest moving cleanest capital city : Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh)

  • Fastest moving self-sustainable cleanest capital city : Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh)
  • Cleanest Ganga towns : Kanauj (Uttar Pradesh)

  • Cleanest city in the north Zone : Gangaghat (Uttar  Pradesh)

  • Cleanest city in the north Zone (pop. 25k – 50k) : Nawashahar (Punjab)
  • Cleanest city in the north Zone (pop. below 25k) : Awagarh (Uttar Pradesh)

  • Cleanest city northeast Zone: Jorhat (Assam)

  • Cleanest city in the northeast Zone (pop. 25k – 50k) : Mokukchung (Nagaland)

  • Cleanest city in the northeast Zone (pop. below 25k) : Jiribam (Manipur)
  • Cleanest cities in the east zone : Dhamtari (Odisha)

  • Cleanest cities in the south zone : Palamaneru (Andhra Pradesh)

  • Cleanest cities in the western zone : Ratnagiri (Maharashtra)
  • Cleanest cantonments in the country : Jalandhar Cantt.

  • Cities awarded for citizen-led awareness towards cleanliness : Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh)

  • Best performing state with more than 100 cities : Maharashtra 
  • Best performing state with less than 100 cities : Madhya Pradesh
